Trow secures career-best with 5th in Nor-Am super-G
ASPEN, Colorado — Four Canadians finished in the top 10 in Thursday's men's super-combined at the Nor-Am Cup in Aspen, Colorado.
Andy Trow from Canmore, Alta., was the fastest Canadian, finishing fifth with a time of 2 minutes, 8.20 seconds, his best career result in a Nor-Am race.
The next fastest Canadian was national teamer Kelby Halbert from Bradford, Ont., who finished seventh. Halbert secured a World Cup spot two days ago when he was fifth in the Nor-Am downhill race in Aspen, which ensured he finished second in the overall downhill standings.
Prospect Group athlete Erik Read from Calgary, Alta., finished eighth. Read's Prospect Group teammate Morgan Pridy from Whistler, B.C., was right behind him in ninth place.
"It was a good race. Some of the guys really put it together for the second run today," said men's Prospect Group coach Kip Harrington. "We could have done better, though."
The weather conditions were pretty rough for the skiers due to heavy snow.
"They were some unforeseen conditions today, but since we already lost a super-G this season, we decided to go for it and race the event," added Harrington. "It was really hard for the early start bib skiers to do well because of the snow falling and the condition of the track.
"I don't want to take anything away from the guys that finished in the top 10 because they skied really well. The course was definitely faster as the race went on. The conditions today were really challenging, that is for sure."
Calgary's Jan Hudec, who is still suffering from a hand injury, finished in 20th place.
The men will be racing in the super-G on Friday, the final Nor-Am Cup event in Aspen.
