Semple heads home after Chamonix training spill
CHAMONIX, France — Canadian skier Ryan Semple suffered a knee injury in a World Cup downhill training crash Thursday in Chamonix, France.
The Ottawa native is en route back to Canada.
An Alpine Canada spokesman did not have specific details on the injury, but Canadian team member Erik Guay said via Twitter that it was "partial ACL and MCL." Guay also said Semple wouldn't require surgery.
Semple is the latest member of the Canadian team to go down. Guay missed an event earlier this month with a sore back while Francois Bourque (knee), Louis-Pierre Helie (concussion, knee), Jan Hudec (hand) and Kelly McBroom (broken ankle) have all been sidelined with injuries.
Benjamin Thomsen of Invermere, B.C., was the top Canadian in training in 28th spot. Manuel Osborne-Paradis of Invermere was 29th while Guay was 36th. S-Magazine
