The Subaru Canadian Freeskiing Championships was postponed Saturday due to not just low visibility but a complete lack of visibility, While the lower half of the mountain was deceptively clear and bordering on sunny, the top of the mountain was blanketed in thick fog.

The first day of world tour competition at the championships is rescheduled for Sunday. The live webcast will start at 10 a.m. PST, and after a dry run Saturday morning, everything is up and ready to stream.

“It’s especially frustrating to postpone it today after taking two days to get through the qualifier,” said legendary announcer Frankie Alisuag. “It’s frustrating for us, it’s frustrating for the athletes, but you know it’s not up to us, it’s up to the weather. On a positive note, the more snow the better for competition and there seems to be no shortage of that this week.”

The feeling of the day was best summed up by Event Director Bryan Barlow: “You know we had some promising forecasts last night, but it’s gone for the fatter side of the forecast and this storm is just not blowing out of here. We’re just going to continue to let the venue fill in and look forward to the better weather that should be coming in tomorrow.”

Finals day moves to Monday when, weather permitting, the finals athletes will load the heli and head for Max Face for what could be mandatory snorkel-level skiing. “We’re going to get the chopper up in the air for finals and you want and need clear skies for that. The forecast looks good though. We all love snow and there is a lot to love here,” said announcer and former competitor Max Kuszaj.

Tune in Sunday for the live webcast of what is shaping up to be the deepest snow for a Subaru Freeskiing World Tour stop in recent memory. The live show is primed and ready and The North Face Media Hub has a strong wifi signal. As soon as Mother Nature lets us, we’ll be coming at you live.
