Préfontaine wins Sunday River Nor-Am GS
SUNDAY RIVER, Maine, and VAL ST. COME, Quebec — Canada's Marie-Pier Préfontaine skied her way to the top of the podium for the second time on the Nor-Am Cup circuit this season Monday in the Sunday River Nor-Am giant slalom. Megan McJames led the U.S. women in second place.
Préfontaine, who finished first earlier this season in the Nor-Am GS at Aspen, Colo., won Monday’s race in 2 minutes, 34.65 seconds McJames took the second spot on the podium with a combined time of 2:36.57 and Nadja Vogel of Switzerland finished third with a combined time of 2:37.58.
Canadan Kate Ryley was ninth, Laura Rozinowicz 10th, Sarah Freeman 13th and Mary Beth Hemphill 14th.
The men were competing across the border at Val St. Come for a slalom event, with Gabriel Rivas of France taking the top spot. He finished with a combined time of 1:36.76.
Two Norwegian athletes, Jonathan Nordbotten and Petter Brenna, took second and third. Ryan Semple, fourth, was the top Canadian. Sasha Zaitsoff was sixth, Trevor Philip 11th, Sean Alexander 12th and Erik Read 13th.
Charles Christianson of Anchorage was the top male American in fifth.
The Nor-Am Cup series will continue Tuesday with a men's slalom at Val St. Come and a women's GS at Sunday River.
