McBroom vows to return to slopes
ZELL AM SEE, Austria — Canada's Kelly McBroom is determined that her latest injury setback won't prevent her from making a strong return to ski racing.
"I put my heart and soul into my last recovery and will do the same for this one," said McBroom from her hospital bed in Austria.
"Obviously I am extremely devastated and frustrated to be injured again as I only started racing one month ago after taking 22 months off to rehab a severe knee injury. But it happened and the only thing I can do now is concentrate on getting healthy and then turn my focus to getting back on the hill."
McBroom, from Canmore, Alta., suffered a fractured left tibia after crashing during a training run in Saalbach, Austria, on Monday. The 21-year-old underwent surgery within hours and remains in a hospital in Austria, where she is waiting to undergo a further procedure.
Dr. Stephen French, medical co-director for Alpine Canada, said it's unlikely McBroom will return to competition this year.
