Maltais leads 15-athlete Canada contingent at X Games

A total of fifteen Canadian snowboarders will be in Aspen, Colorado, to partake in X Games 15 from Jan. 27-30 in big air, slopestyle, halfpipe, snowboardcross, snowboard street and para-snowboard.

National team member Dominique Maltais of Petite-Rivière-St-François, Que., will be riding in the women’s snowboardcross competition. Maltais is ranked first in the FIS World Cup standings and will face longtime rival Lindsey Jacobellis of the United States, the defending world champion.

In men’s snowboardcross, national teamers Rob Fagan of Cranbrook, B.C., Tom Velisek of Squamish, B.C., Kevin Hill of Vernon, B.C., Dan Csokonay of Calgary and Jake Holden of Caledon, Ont., will be competing.

In women’s halfpipe, Sarah Conrad of Halifax, N.S., will be riding in the star-filled contest.

In men’s slopestyle and big-air contests, Canada will be represented by Seb Toots and Mark McMorris, two riders who rode in some World Cup competitions as well as TTR contests this season.

Partnering with the Adaptive Action Sports, the X Games will also feature for the first time the sport of para-snowboard to its program, as an exhibition event. Canadian National Team members Tyler Mosher and Ian Lockey will be representing Canada in the groundbreaking race.
