Helie suffers suspected ACL tear, is recovering from concussion
Louis-Pierre Hélie suffered a concussion in Tuesday's downhill training run in Bormio, Italy, and might be facing extensive knee rehab.
Hélie continues to improve after his brief loss of consciousness and is still attended by Canadian team physicians. He was transferred Wednesday to the trauma centre in Innsbruck, Austria, for assessment by Neurosurgical specialists there.
"A follow-up CT scan has indicated a stable brain injury that will hopefully continue to improve from a neurologic perspective and he has remained alert and in good spirits. He is expected to be discharged from hospital on Thursday, December 30," said team physician Dr. Stephen French.
"While the athletes' neurologic perspective is improving, unfortunately he appears to have sustained a significant left knee injury in the same crash and he will be returning to Canada for assessment and treatment of a suspected ACL tear at the first opportunity. The athlete's return to competition remains uncertain at this time," French said. S-Magazine
