Georgian Peaks' Donaldson just off Nor-Am slalom podium

PANORAMA, B.C. — The Northwest Funds Nor-Am Cup presented by Continental Tire wrapped up Thursday at Panorama, B.C., as the men competed in a slalom event and the women a giant slalom.

Norway's Jonathan Nordbotten was the fastest to cross the finish line with a two-run combined time of 1 minute, 37.33. This was the first time that a non-north American athlete made it to the podium since the start of the Nor-Am Cup at Lake Louise last week.

Colby Grandstrom from the USA skied his way on the second step of the podium with a time of 1:38.02 and teammate Nick Daniels rounded out the podium with a time of 1:39.43.

The fastest Canadian in the slalom event was David Donaldson from Georgian Peaks, who finished fourth with a time of 1:39.55.

In the women's giant slalom race it was a USA podium sweep as Mikaela Shiffrin was the fastest down the hill with a two-run combined time of 2:15.56, almost two seconds faster than Anna Marno, who finished in 2:17.45. Kiley Staples finished third.

The fastest Canadian was Kate Ryley from the Craigleith Ski Club in Collingwood, Ont., who finished fifth with a combined time of 2:18.27.

The Nor-Am Cup moves to Sunday River, Maine, on Jan. 3-4 for men's giant slalom and slalom races and to Val St-Côme, Que., for two women's slalom events. S-Magazine
