Feuz, Svindal, Clarey lead DH portion of super-combined
CHAMONIX, France — Beat Feuz of Switzerland took the lead in a men's World Cup super-combined on Sunday by setting the fastest time in the downhill leg.
The 23-year-old Feuz sped down the 3.37-kilometer (2.09-mile) Verte course in 1 minute, 59.97 seconds, beating second-place Aksel Lund Svindal of Norway by 0.08 seconds.
Frenchman Johan Clarey was third in 2:00.39.
Svindal finished third in the Wengen super-combined earlier this month and is in good position heading to the slalom leg later in the afternoon.
Overall World Cup leader Ivica Kostelic of Croatia struggled on a course favoring gliding abilities and was a full 2.50 back.
Several top skiers including Benjamin Raich, Bode Miller and Carlo Janka skipped the Chamonix races.
Ben Thomsen of Canada was 30th in the downhill and starts first in the slalom portion. S-Magazine
