
ALPINE:
Chodounsky wins Nor-Am slalom, White 4th
LOVELAND SKI AREA, Colorado — American David Chodounsky won the opening Nor-Am race Saturday over Austrian star Marcel Hirscher by a half-second at Loveland Ski Area. Frenchman Thomas Mermillod rounded out the podium in third among the field stacked with World Cup talent.
Chodounsky was in third after run one behind Mike Janyk of Canada and Nolan Kasper, who both failed to finish the second fun.
Nick Daniels was the next fastest American, moving up to seventh from his 48th start position. Daniels was joined in the top 15 by teammate Max Marno in 14th, also coming from a high bib number.
Trevor White was fourth to lead the Canadians, with Brad Spence fifth, Ryan Semple sixth, David Donaldson eighth, Travis Dawson 10th, Trevor Philp 13th and Paul Atkinson 24th. Julien Cousineau, Paul Stutz and Patrick Biggs were among the Canadians who did not finish.
There were only 40 finishers of the 105 racers to start the race.
Nor-Am Cup racing will continue Sunday with another slalom for the men. S-Magazine
