CBC kicks of 2010-11 TV slate with Lake Louise Winterstart coverage
Alpine Canada's longstanding broadcasting partner, CBC Sports, is bringing live ski racing to Canadians in 2010-11, including comprehensive coverage for the next two weekends of the Bombardier presents Lake Louise Winterstart World Cup.
The Alpine Ski Series on CBC kicks off Saturday live at 1:00 p.m. ET on CBC Television and CBCSports.ca with live coverage of the men's Lake Louise downhill. CBC Sports will carry more than 10 hours of World Cup coverage from Lake Louise on multiple platforms over the next two weekends for the men's and women's speed events.
"Alpine skiing on CBC has been a staple of weekend afternoons for Canadians since the era of the Crazy Canucks, and we're excited to continue that tradition beginning with two great weekends at Lake Louise. That will begin a full season of coverage of alpine ski racing on CBC, which includes races almost every Saturday afternoon on CBC Sports Weekend as well as live coverage of many World Cup races on www.cbcsports.ca and CBC's digital channel bold," said Don Peppin, executive producer of Sports Weekend on CBC.
A highlight of the season will be the 2011 World Championships from Garmisch, Germany, from Feb. 7-20, 2011, and CBC will provide complete coverage, including live coverage of all races on www.cbcsports.ca and CBC's digital channel bold and complete wrap-ups on CBC Sports Weekend.
CBC's coverage includes races from around the globe all season, including the men's downhill race at Wengen, Switzerland, on Jan. 15 and Kitzbühel, Austria, on Jan. 23.
"CBC's race calendar this season delivers a lot of great races to Canadian television, particularly highlighting the Bombardier Lake Louise Winterstart and the World Championships in Garmisch-Partenkirchen. Our fans are also increasingly asking to watch more ski races live and CBC is delivering for them on the CBC," said Alpine Canada President Max Gartner.
CBCSports.ca will provide live streaming coverage of all of CBC's Alpine Ski Series events, starting with Lake Louise, while CBC's digital channel bold will provide more than 35 hours of coverage throughout the 2010-11 season. For information on how to order bold, viewers can call their local television service provider or visit www.boldtv.ca.
Gemini Award winner Scott Russell will be the prime host the Alpine Ski Series on CBC alongside Kerrin Lee-Gartner, Canada's first Olympic downhill gold medallist, who will complement the coverage with insight and analysis. Steve Armitage, also a Gemini Award winner, will be filling in as well. S-Magazine
