Hill, Ricker win SBX national titles
MONT-TREMBLANT, Que. — Maelle Ricker of Squamish, B.C., added yet another title to her stellar season, winning the Canada Snowboard Nationals for the second straight season Saturday.
Ricker also won gold at the Olympics and captured the World Cup championship this season.
"I'm pretty happy," said Ricker. "It's been lots of fun to ride with all the young girls and a good get together for Canada snowboardcross."
Ricker beat Carle Brenneman of Comox, B.C., as well as Americans Jacqueline Hernandez and Chloe Banning in the final.
In the men's competition, Kevin Hill of Vernon, B.C., is the new Canadian champion, beating Jake Holden of Caledon, Ont., and Robert Minghini and JJ Tomlinson of the U.S.
It's a solid finish to the season for Hill, who came close to earning a spot on Canada's Olympic team. His best World Cup finish was sixth in a January race at Stoneham, Que.
"It feels pretty good to win the last race of the season, it just tops the whole season off," said Hill.
Other Canadian notables competing included Rob Fagan of Cranbrook, B.C., who finished in seventh place, and Francois Boivin of Jonquiere, Que., in eighth. Mike Robertson of Canmore, Alta., was knocked out of the competition in the quarter-finals because of a crash. Drew Neilson, also of Vernon, did not start. SRC
