NAKISKA SKI AREA, Alberta — Erik Guay of Mont-Tremblant, Que., ended his successful super-G season on a high note, winning Tuesday's GMC Canadian Championships.

On the women's side, it was Marie-Michele Gagnon of Lac-Etchemin, Que., successfully defending her super-combined title in a time of 1 minute, 41.74 seconds.

Guay, this year's super-G crystal globe winner after finishing the season with consecutive World Cup victories, grabbed the top spot again Tuesday in a time of 1:06.72.

Guay was pleased to win, admitting that his first super-G race since becoming the overall World Cup champion did come with a little added pressure.

"There is a little bit more pressure, more than I thought actually," said the 28-year-old Guay. "When you are expected to win, when you just came away with the globe ...

"There are some great skiers here like Manny (Osborne-Paradis), Jan (Hudec) and others, so it's great."

Guay, a national super-G champion in 2002 and 2003, now has eight Canadian titles in four disciplines.

Gagnon, meanwhile, earned the second Canadian championship of her career, finishing with the top time in the opening super-G run and then holding on to her lead during the slalom.

"I was really happy I won the super-G," Gagnon said. "For me that's a pretty big step. I mean to be beating girls like Britt (Janyk) and Emily (Brydon), that's really good.

"I am planning on winning a couple more titles this week," she said with a grin.

Competition continues Wednesday with the women’s super-G and men's super-combined.  SRC
