Canada’s Erin Mielzynski crossed the finish line in a two-run time of 2 minutes, 3.80 seconds to finish in second place in the slalom Sunday at the U.S. national alpine championships at Whiteface, New York.

Patrick Biggs led after the opening run on the men's side but hiked after making a mistake in his second run to finish off the pace as a handful of Canadians are in the U.S. to prepare for the GMC Canadian Championships technical events later this week at Nakiska.

Part of the Canadian event is the GMC March of Champions, bringing Canada's top slalom skiers to Calgary's Canada Olympic Park for a dual slalom event

World Championships medallist Michael Janyk is scheduled to participate in Saturday's dual slalom involving several other national team skiers and provincial racers, on the same day the national slalom titles are handed out at Nakiska Ski Area.

Olympic gold medallists Alexandre Bilodeau (moguls) and Ashleigh McIvor (ski cross) as well as Olympic silver medallist Jennifer Heil (moguls) will all compete for national titles in their respective sports on the same day.

The GMC March of Champions will also include Olympic athlete autograph sessions, awards ceremonies and a DJ throughout the day. It all takes place March 27 at Canada Olympic Park. Later that night, catch entertainment by Michael Bernard Fitzgerald, The Other Side and BC/DC on the GMC Stage.

Sunday’s second downhill training at the GMC Canadian Championships was called off due to high winds. Emily Brydon and Manuel Osborne-Paradis had the top times in Saturday’s training.

The hard-working volunteer course crew continues working to have the Mapmaker piste at Nakiska ready for Monday ‘spooning downhill race at 9:15 a.m. The daily GMC awards presentation is scheduled for 3 p.m.  SRC
