STEAMBOAT SPRINGS, Colorado — Mikael Kingsbury of Deux-Montagnes, Que., and Chelsea Henitiuk of Whistler, B.C., won gold medals in men’s and women’s moguls, respectively, on Thursday at a Nor-Am freestyle skiing competition.

In men’s moguls, Kingsbury captured his fifth victory on the circuit this winter to wrap up the Nor-Am moguls title, scoring 26.02 points. Joe Disco of the U.S., was second at 25.50 and Marc-Antoine Gagnon of Terrebonne, Que., was third at 24.74.

“I executed my two biggest jumps and I couldn’t have asked for much better,” said Kingsbury, 17, who performed a double-full on the top air and a huge cork 1080 on the second. “I never thought I would have this much success. I knew it was possible and the key was being so consistent at every competition. I really didn’t miss anything all season.”

Arnaud Laurin-Landry of Montreal was 10th and Pascal-Olivier Gagné of Montreal was 11th.

In women’s moguls, Henitiuk earned her first career Nor-Am single moguls victory in the event with 23.53 points. Mikaela Matthews of the U.S., was second at 23.26 and Justine Dufour-Lapointe of Montreal, the younger sister of Olympic finalist Chloé Dufour-Lapointe, took the bronze at 23.06.

On Sunday, Henitiuk won her first career NorAm dual moguls event at Apex Mountain, B.C.

“I was really happy with my final,” said Henitiuk, 22. “I was confident, the snow was awesome and I felt I could really push myself to the limit. The highlight for me today was my back flip on my top air. The end of the season is approaching and I just want to go as hard as I can.”

Jackie Brown of Cambridge, Ont., was fourth at 23.03 and Alexandra Dufresne of Lorraine, Que., sixth at 22.31.

Competition continues Friday with men’s and women’s dual moguls.  SRC
