CRANS-MONTANA, Switzerland — Olympic downhill champion Lindsey Vonn was third in a training run for a World Cup downhill race.

The two-time defending World Cup overall winner was 0.73 seconds behind Elisabeth Goergl on Thursday.

The Austrian came down the course on Thursday in 1 minute, 40.81 seconds. Switzerland's Fabienne Suter was second, 0.37 seconds behind.

Britt Janyk was eighth to lead the Canadians, with Emily Brydon 21st and Shona Rubens 48th.

Americans Stacey Cook and Alice McKennis were also in the top 10.

The women race a super-combined on Friday, followed by a downhill and super-G over the weekend.

The speed races offer Vonn an opportunity to pad her 137-point lead over Maria Riesch in the overall World Cup standings.  SRC
